cave-apartment

Cave-like dwelling, serves as a retreat for a very busy owner who spends most of his time travelling for works in different nations. He needs a very sensible and intimate space where he can rest, physical and mentally, a place that can heal his mortal being.
A series of curve elements and reflective surface are employed in this project. We believe curve surface and reflective plane can bend and distort the light and may be even time.

Here, time and light are manipulated by carefully planned curve walls and mirrors. We wish to retain the movement of light and time, if not, to slow them down.

The living room and the master bedroom are inter-connected as well as wardrobe, no doors, no barriers. As such, a continuity of space can be achieved, leading one to the other. A curve wall leads to a study which is tugged away from the living room; another curve wall at the entrance lobby leads to the kitchen in one end and the living room at the other end.

The wardrobe is attached to the bedroom via an opening on a dark wall.

A curve-profile seat in the wardrobe is inspired by an ovum-like interior.

A fully equipped kitchen comes with a sliding copper table to cater for occasionally guests and mostly the solitary soul. Copper is selected due to its metal property, it is sensitive with the contact of human flesh, with each touching leaves marks on the surface, like a tapestry of time, in addition to that, it ages well with the passing time.

Slits at copper table, defines the intangible form like information, light and time slipping through the grip of solid form, mortal being.
